The Derby City Bears are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the advocacy of the Bear community in the greater Louisville area. What’s a bear? Traditionally bears are defined as hefty, hairy, and friendly gay men. The Derby City Bears saw the need to support this group within gay community and has answered the call. Our advocacy comes from people of all genders, shapes, and sizes. At the end of the day, all we have is each other, and the Derby City Bears recognize this and strategically strive to be a beacon of inclusiveness, positivity, and plain fun within the LGBTQIA community.

We achieve this by banding together for philanthropic causes that support our community’s non-profit organizations and growing fellowship and camaraderie within the gay community. The Derby City Bears foster the idea that no matter what you look like, how high or low your voice is, or even how much hair you have, you are OK just the way you are. Furthermore, we create spaces and opportunities to realize this mission, so that everyone remembers that there is always a place for you to cultivate friendships and improve our community.
